For one night only, Chicago’s Bronzeville—the Musical will be performed at the Chicago Theatre, 175 N. State St., Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016. Presented by the Mahdi Theatre Company, and written and directed by Margaret Mahdi, it’s the story of the Great Migration of African Americans north, and the origins of Bronzeville, a black community in the city’s south side, also known as the “Black Metropolis.” The courageous journey of a strong, pioneering people who could no longer tolerate living under oppressive conditions comes to life through an original score of jazz, blues and gospel, plus a pulsating choreography and gutsy performances by community performers and musical guests. It’s a journey that includes legendary Chicagoans like Lorraine Hansberry and Robert Abbot, and the “Famed Lindy Hoppers” of the Savoy Ballroom. It’s a story that will make you laugh, cry, and feel inspired.
Doors open at 6:30 pm and the show begins at 7:30 pm. Chicago Theatre is less than a 10-minute drive from Best Western Grant Park. Public transit options take about 15-20 minutes, and include the Green Line, Red Line, and 146 Michigan Express bus.
