Since 2012, the Harmonica Hoedown has celebrated the rich history and diverse approaches to the world's most popular, most portable instrument. For 2020, the Harmonica Hoedown again brings together some of the finest players of today: Joe Filisko is revered as a master player, teacher, custom harmonica pioneer, researcher and historian and is arguably the world's foremost authority on many aspects of the diatonic harmonica and a key figure in today's harmonica scene. He'll be performing with special guests for this year's hoedown. The harmonica trio (and beyond) of Conway, Kessler & Nelson ) brings together three unique, highly respected stylists on the instrument. James Conway, who has played Irish music all his life applies techniques learned from master blues players including Junior Wells and Sugar Blue to bring a truly innovative approach to traditional Celtic music. Graham Nelson's use of advanced techniques taught to him by harmonica master Howard Levy gives him great musical versatility and expression in numerous styles, in addition to his incredible singing. Bob Kessler specializes on bass harmonica and has performed with Grammy winners Ramsey Lewis, Dave Alvin, country legend Bill Anderson at the Grand Ole Opry, and several Chicago bands including Bakelite 78, the Black Willoughbys and currently Gone Valley. This year's Harmonica Hoedown also welcomes the Lucky Ducks, a Chicago Blues duo with a flair for Cajun music which includes Joe Filisko student Zoe Savage on harmonica and vocals and Mike Jones on guitar.
